ABUC, 11 Cuban Artists. Mai 36 Galerie. Zürich, Switzerland
Mai 36 Galerie is delighted to present a group exhibition of eleven contemporary cuban artists.
ABUC brings together a group of Cuban artists as a personal overview on the current contemporary art scene in Havana. It is a glimpse into an island universe and a personal choice. Victor Gisler has regularly visited Havana and its artists’ studios over the last 8 years. This show aims to introduce to a western audience a group of four generations of artistic practises in Cuba – mythical, mysterious, sensual, dynamic, unique, bizarre and misunderstood.
The conditions and themes of these practices are precarious, not just economically, but also psychologically, spiritually and politically.
Alejandro Campins, Laura Carralero, Raúl Cordero, Leandro Feal, Carlos Garaicoa, Flavio Garciandía, Orestes Hernández, Reynier Leyva Novo, Michel Pérez Pollo, Irving Vera and José Yaque.
Opening: October 31, 6PM
November 1, 2019 – January 11, 2020
